Kazuri Beads

 KAZURI

The Swahili word meaning small and beautiful describes these handmade ceramic beads created by disadvantaged African women.

The clay for the beads comes from the mountains of Kenya and is then hand-shaped, polished, kiln fired, painted, and glazed into KAZURI beads.

Originally employing two women in a backyard garden shed outside of Nairobi, KAZURI Beads has since expanded into a workshop on a former coffee plantation now employing over 200 single mothers, widows, and women with special needs.

As a member of the Fair Trade Federation, KAZURI employees are paid fair wages to enable them to support their extended families, as well as being provided a safe working environment. Programs are now in place to ensure healthcare as well as childcare.

Enjoy your KAZURI jewelry knowing that as appreciation for these beads grows, more women will be employed and empowered!
